On December 3 and 4, 2010 Jo Osterhouse and Martin MacRoberts surveyed the bird
population along Trigg Road from Mosquero to the south end of Trigg Ranch.
There is an abundance of juniper berries along most of the route resulting
in a large number of American Robin and Mountain Bluebird. For the first
time in the 59 surveys of this route, they failed to find a Red-tailed Hawk.
The hawk population along the roadside from Wagon Mound to the ranch is very
sparse with only one buteo being seen.
The weather was very mild to warm on December 3 (high close to 70 with
minimal wind for the area). December 4 was colder and windier with the high
occurring at night (57 at 6:30am) and going down from there. It was partly
to mostly cloudy both days.
Listed below are the birds identified by Species (Dec 3, Dec 4). A total of
45 species and 1375 individuals were identified. In addition and not
included is a Blue Jay seen within the past two weeks by Kristen Holmes at
here house.
